Geeveston Art Show

Another local, to The Huon Valley ,art show.

This is another yearly event, well supported by the locals and the artist in the Huon Valley, with 112 entries this year.

I went to the opening on the Friday evening which was really nice, with music, wine and a big table with cheese and other finger food.

The presentation was held down stairs in the visitor information area, with rows of chairs where people could sit and talk, while they drank their wine.

I had two entries to this art show , one in the Textile section, which was a great delight for me to enter, as not many shows have textile sections. The other section I entered into was the 3d section.

The theme for this art show was; Light – so what better than a sculpture of the dancing Aurora light, wet felted from cross bred and merino wool, with silk and bamboo fiber for highlights.

Continuing on the light path -my second entry was called Light Trap.

Made from a hand raised copper bowl, patinated green on the outside and cover with gold leaf on the inside, all finished with a clear coat of lacquer. A looped structure, made from recycled copper wire, starts from the brim of the bowl and encapsulates the whole thing in a looped wire netting. Wonderful patterns are created when the light/sun shines through the netting.

I really enjoyed the loop work, and as soon as I come across some recycled copper wire, there are other things I would like to experiment with.
